Restaurant/Gallery

Design 3

This building consist of a variety of programmatic spaces that together create a Restaurant Gallery. For this project, I would like to focus on what inspired me to develop this structure. The shape of the building combines the diverse architecture found in Downtown Miami, it is inspired by the soft lines of the Arena and the straight edges of the MDC buildings and the Freedom Tower. The entrances and shape of the building are also a response to the site and the difference in population found in this area.

Developing an architectural or any design idea can be sometimes a complex task. Therefore, it is important to experiment with different techniques in those moments that our creativity is at its lowest point. Here is a video from Eric Reinholdt, an architect and entrepreneur, whose videos helped me to realize that you can find inspiration and ideas everywhere, you just need to look at your surroundings with an open mind.

Sense of Arrival

Design 3

This project was created during my Architectural Design III class at MDC. The purpose of this project was to design three spaces that create specific feelings on the visitor. One space would make the person feel small, another one that would make him feel big, and the last one must be an embedded place that would give the individual a sense of relief and privacy.

I successfully created those feelings in my structure by using different architectural techniques. In order to make a person feel small, I added to the room three main massive and tall columns that introduce the idea of miniature through the difference in scale. These also point to the sky while emphasizing their vertical axis and height. On the other hand, To make someone feel big, the person would circulate from the “feeling small room” to the “feeling big room” through several columns that gradually decrease in ratio making him feel a little bigger. In addition to this technique, there is a stand at the center of the room that invites individuals to step over and be the center of attention.

In order to fully understand this project I encourage you to watch my final animation: “Sense of Arrival.”

One Point Perspective

Architectural Communication I

Do you recognize the building on the featured image? find the answer at the end of the page.

As an architect or designer is very important to be able to develop quick sketches that will allow you to visually express your ideas to your clients. One point perspective is an essential drawing technique for beginners used to represent an image as it is seen by the eyes. I first learned this method at my architectural communications 1 class at Miami Dade College. After learning this technique you will be able to explore two-point perspective and multi-point perspective drawings which require more advanced skills.

The image on the left was drew fromDrawing Masterclass,” this is an excellent book for those interested in learning how to draw interior and exterior spaces using different perspectives. This book displays different images that visually explain the steps needed to draw a specific place. The image from the right is a visual representation of a one- point perspective drawing where every element is drawn from a specific vanishing point. “How to Draw a Room Using One Point Perspective” explains the steps on creating a drawing using this perspective.

For more information on One point perspective and how this technique works please check Olga Sorokina’s video: “1-Point Perspective: Drawing an Interior by Using Method #1” . She is an amazing interior designer, artist, and author whose videos and sketches have helped me to improve my drawing skills.

Answer: Correct! The building is the PAMM or Perez Art Museum Miami. This is an eye-catching design that combines nature and culture, designed by architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, or Herzog & de Meuron.

Micro Container Mall

Revit

Micro Container Mall is based on the idea of a small market located in Downtown Miami. This project applies a sustainable design made of shipping containers. It was inspired by the artistic elements of Wynwood walls and a new way of creating living and commercial spaces through the use of Shipping Containers. This is an affordable, fast and durable way of creating structures.

This design was developed under the I-95 Urban Reintegration Project where students from different semesters developed the underside where I-95 meets Downtown Miami. This project was created by professor Hector Camps. Autodesk Revit was used as the modelling software and Enscape for rendering.

Enscape is an amazing rendering software that allows you to render projects in only a few seconds. In addition to real time renderings, this software produce quality panoramas and allows you to experiment your design through virtual reality. It is time saving, easy to use, and free for students after obtaining a student license. Watch Enscape’s tutorial and discover the magic of this software.

Artist Studio

Design 4

The goal of this project was to design an artist studio with three different spaces. One must be a small office or work place, the other one a place for communal or shared activities, and the last one and most important was a “secret” or inspirational place. This last place must be the most important and should be emphasized from the outside and the inside. When a person enters the building through the communal area, he or she can acknowledge the presence or a second floor or central place through the dropping of the ceiling and special treated that creates both a contained area in the main floor and it also points the existence of an extra room through curiosity or partially revealing this area.
